According to Wikipedia:
An archon, in the Gnosticism of late antiquity, was any of several servants of the Demiurge, the “creator god” that stood between the human race and a transcendent God that could only be reached through gnosis. In this context they have the role of the daimons in Neo-Platonism.[1] They give their name to the sect called Archontics. They were thus called from the Greek word ἄρχοντες, “principalities”, or “rulers”, by reason that they held the world to have been created and ruled by malevolent Archons. The term was taken from the ancient Greek position of office “archon“.
According to the Thoth Akasha “archon” is not a creator god. This term was used for such when certain beings, such as the Annunaki (there were others as well), attempted to rule over humanity on earth for periods of time.
From the Thothic Perspective “archon” in its most ancient understanding, is the miasmaic plasma cloud formed of energy not reconciled to Divine Source (equated to a virus). It is very dense, magnetic and contracting. Somewhat like a black hole, except it is not functional as a universal property. It only exists to attract and contain.
Souls which are largely stagnate in their ability to recognize and integrate with the Full Light Universal Spectrum will be subsumed by the archonic cloud. When Thoth speaks of the “Nephilim” these are (for the most part) beings who have been highly archonically invested.
All of us are influenced by this magnetic cloud. It is those who give themselves fully to contraction of Spirit are the ones sucked into it’s cesspool.
If the archonic influence on this planet were to be cast out – which it eventually must be – we would have only our own karmic reflexes to master. As long as the “cloud” hangs above us, every karmic reflex is attenuated by its gravity.
